The Record: Contemporary Art & Vinyl

The Record: Contemporary Art & Vinyl originated at The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University last year and has since traveled to the (ICA) Institute of Contemporary Art / Boston where it closed a few months ago, but don’t fret

you can still check it out if you are in Miami or Seattle next year. Learn more about this exhibit, see the exhibition tour schedule here  & put the dates on your calendar. I will also make sure to repost this as the dates approach.

I thought this was particularly interesting because in my series of mixed media paintings “Music, Lyrics & Songs”, I use Records/ Vinyl/ Album Art  from my dad’s collection as well as my own, to regenerate memories. I have so many music related memories as I am sure we all do. Growing up, my dad was the resident DJ  for family events etc, so music was always a part of my life. I made a decision at an early age to focus on painting, trading in my guitar and piano for paint brushes and an easel.  Through exploring music, lyrics & song titles, I recollect & place myself within my family’s history. I interpret moments, life experiences.  These are a few examples from this ongoing series. I will be exhibiting new work from “Music, Lyrics & Songs” in 2012.
